Paper wasps are a regular sight around Caboolture from spring through to autumn. Their grey, papery nests hang under eaves, verandah rails, carports, tank stands, shed doors, clotheslines and in thick shrubs. On acreage and highset homes there are a lot of sheltered spots for them, and a nest can grow from a handful of wasps to dozens over a few weeks.
When you ring, we ask where the nest is, how high it sits and whether there is more than one. The crew we book arrives with protective clothing, treats the nest so the wasps settle, then takes it down and treats the spot to discourage them from rebuilding. While they are there, they can check the rest of the house, verandahs, sheds and fences for other nests you may not have spotted yet.
Until the crew arrives, keep children, pets and visitors away from the nest and do not try to knock it down or spray it, as that can stir the wasps up. Mowing or whipper snipping near a nest in a shrub can also set them off, so leave that part of the yard for now.
